Plants have learned to adapt to extreme environments. In the cold tundra, Arctic and Antarctic regions, plants will be small and close to the ground to keep them warm, dark in color to take in more sunlight, and grow in clusters. Water plants have flexible leaves and stems so they can move with the water, small roots to hold down the plant, leaves that have wax coating so they can float and keep the water out. Desert plants store water in their stems, their roots grow long and deep seeking water, have spines to make them less attractive to animals, and thick wax to keep water in.
